Camp Mohawk announced as fourth winner of charity prize draw

We are delighted to announce the fourth winner of our 50th anniversary charity prize draw.

This month’s winner, Alan Kittle of Kittle Associates in Henley and tenant of Sorbon Estates, nominated Camp Mohawk as the recipient of the donation. The charity is a day centre for children with special needs and their families, offering a range of activities, facilities and natural spaces in which children can play, socialise and learn. Camp Mohawk is set in five acres of countryside just outside of Wargrave in Berkshire, and provides stimulating workshops, sensory and social activities led by experienced, enthusiastic staff.

Kittle Associates, tender writing consultancy helping companies to bid for new contracts, is just a few miles from Camp Mohawk, and regularly sees the great work the local charity does for the community and wanted to help the charity offer vital support for children and young people in the area.

Founded in 1973 by Newham Explorer Scouts to take disadvantaged children away from their ‘concrete jungle’, the charity is now solely focussed on those with special needs, supporting over 1,000 individual children each year. The charity will spend the donation on developing its summer holiday activities during which as many as 60 children per day will be able to access the facilities.

Tamra Booth, Operations Director at the Shanly Group, said: “At the Shanly Group we put a lot of emphasis on working with and strengthening communities, so we were delighted to hear that Alan and his team had chosen such a great local charity. It’s great to see that this donation will help to provide additional support to children and their families during the summer.”

Alan Kittle, Managing Director of Kittle Associates, said: “We have been aware of Camp Mohawk and the fantastic work they do supporting children and young people with special needs for some time. As a local company, we appreciate living and working in such a beautiful environment as Henley. There is therefore no better worthwhile cause than blending the two, giving these children the opportunity to share the benefits of such surroundings while learning and developing their skills and confidence.”

Annabel Hill, Head of Fundraising at Camp Mohawk said: “During the summer holidays, children with additional needs often lose their sense of routine, so having access to our facilities seven days a week throughout the holidays is a great help for families. We’ve been told by many families and charitable organisations who use our services that we are their lifeline, particularly at this time of year, so we’re extremely grateful to Alan Kittle and the Shanly Group for this timely donation.”
